“Light work for the queen”- Some Chelsea fans react as club director wins at Golden Boy awards

Chelsea fans react on Twitter as chief Marina Granovskaia awarded best club director in European football

Chelsea chief Marina Granovskaia was honoured as the best club director in European football on Monday night at the Golden Boy awards.

It was an award that was always coming her way, given her stellar work at the West London club. The Russian-born chief is a close aide to owner Roman Abramovich and has been at the helm of things since 2013.

She has been in charge of player transactions and contracts, and the club’s work in that area has excelled in the last decade. Since her appointment, the Blues have lifted the Champions League trophy, the Europa League title, 2 Premier League trophies, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FA Cup.

Well deserved?

Granovskaia also played a role in luring Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan to Stamford Bridge this summer. The striker signed for a club-record fee worth £97.5million, and the Chelsea chief was at the epicentre of this deal, thanks to her good relationship with agent Federico Pastorello.

In fact, she also managed to finance this entire deal by selling young stars as well as fringe players in the squad. Thus, it was no surprise that her fine work was finally being recognized on the grand stage. However, her focus could now be on renewing the deals of Antonio Rudiger, Thiago Silva, Cesar Azpilicueta, and Andreas Christensen.

The Chelsea quartet is out of contract next summer, and there is some worry whether any of them will stay at Stamford Bridge or not. Granovskaia shall need to work her magic again and provide us with some good news before the end of 2021.

Let us now see how some fans reacted on Twitter to the Chelsea chief receiving the prestigious accolade on Monday night.

It is truly a proud moment for the club and a deserved win because success on the pitch cannot be possible without people working hard behind the scenes. This award should be treated as one for all our staff members for how they’ve transformed us to become one of the best clubs in Europe right now.
