Romano: Serie A giants not in talks with Chelsea over 24-year-old Italian star

Transfer News: Fabrizio Romano claims Juventus and Chelsea currently not discussing a deal for Federico Chiesa

Speaking on his ‘Here We Go’ podcast, via @CFCPys on Twitter (h/t football.london), Fabrizio Romano claimed that Juventus are currently not discussing a deal with Chelsea for Federico Chiesa.

The former Fiorentina winger has notched his performance levels since joining the Old Lady last summer. The Turin outfit signed him on a two-year loan deal, and given his performances so far, it might be a no-brainer for them to make his move permanent.

However, foreign clubs are now interested in him. Chelsea, in particular, have been linked with the player in recent weeks, according to journalist Nico Schira (h/t The Sun). It has also been revealed that Thomas Tuchel ‘loves’ the attacker.

But interest in the 24-year-old can only go so far. The Serie A giants are apparently not discussing an exit for their prized asset currently but the situation could be evaluated in the summer.

Bodes well for the Blues

Chiesa is a fantastic talent, and his performances at the Euros were enough to impress the best in Europe. Thus, he would more likely than not upgrade any side he joins, including Chelsea. However, the Blues do not possess an urgent need to sign him.

The depth in our attacking talent is well documented, and managing their game-time is a challenge in itself. Moreover, this is Tuchel’s first full season in charge of the club. He might want to learn the finer aspects of his squad and make an informed decision on their futures only after doing so.

If Juventus do wish to keep the Italian for the current season and make a decision in the summer, it is not going to be the worst scenario for the Stamford Bridge outfit. In fact, we are in a win-win situation.

Signing Chiesa would make us a real force going forward. Alternatively, failure to sign him could allow us to hone the talent in our academy. Thus, it is not a major setback for the men in blue, and they might not mind if the Serie A club takes all the time in the world over a decision for the high-flying winger.
