Chelsea make a decision on recalling impressive PL loanee in January

Chelsea have made a decision on recalling Conor Gallagher in January

According to Ladbrokes (h/t Independent), Chelsea loan coach Carlo Cudicini has revealed Blues have no plans to recall Conor Gallagher from his loan spell at Crystal Palace.

The youngster is enjoying a successful spell at Crystal Palace this season and has developed into one of the most promising midfielders in the Premier League. The 21-year-old has already bagged six goals and three assists in English top-flight matches with the Eagles. Furthermore, the Chelsea loanee put an awe-inspiring performance against league leader Manchester City earlier in the campaign.

Even after such an impressive string of performances, Chelsea loan manager Carlo Cudicini has suggested that Blues have no plans to cut short the player’s loan spell in the January transfer window.

“What’s important for Conor is to finish the season where he is. That’s why we’ve not put anything in place to recall him next month.”

Cudicini also acknowledged the massive interest from top clubs to sign the English midfielder. But then thriving in the Premier League is a testament to a player’s potential.

“With a player as talented as Conor, you’re always going to receive a lot of interest from a number of clubs, both from England and abroad.”

The North London club’s loan manager thinks that Patrick Vieira’s team is ideal for Gallagher’s growth at this moment. The Frenchman has been able to use Gallagher judiciously and the youngster only appears to be getting better and better.

“It was just a matter of understanding what the manager wants from him, and then it’s about picking the right club – and we feel Crystal Palace is exactly that.”

Chelsea are currently in a pretty uncomfortable situation with the midfield. Despite bringing in Saúl Ñíguez on loan from Atletico Madrid in the summer, the Blues haven’t had it easy.

The injury to N’Golo Kanté and Jorginho pushed Thomas Tuchel to use defensive players such as Reece James in the midfield.

Recently Chelsea have faced a surge in Covid cases in the squad. Thus there is a huge possibility that many first-team players will have to spend some time in self-quarantine if they contact the virus. Therefore, in the coming weeks, the Blues may need more fresh legs in the team.

The return of Conor Gallagher could have helped the German manager tackle the situation. But it seems the North London camp doesn’t want to risk his long term growth for short term gain. The British midfielder will face massive competition to earn first-team minutes at Chelsea. Indeed, he would not get the type of crucial role that he is playing for Crystal Palace. Therefore, it’s a good move keeping an eye on his future at the club.
