Transfer News: Thiago Silva receives huge Middle East offer amidst contract issues at Chelsea
Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, as quoted by The Express, Ian McGarry claimed that an unnamed Middle East club have made a ‘significant’ offer to Thiago Silva amidst a contract stalemate at Chelsea.
The centre-back has fit into the new country and the new league seamlessly over the past 18 months. His fitness is commendable, as is his professionalism towards the game. Moreover, his leadership skills guided us towards the UCL title last season and have been key in our Premier League title challenge this season.
But his contract situation is on the edge. He only has six months left on his deal and could be free to negotiate with foreign clubs in January. In fact, he has now been presented with a massive financial offer from the Middle East. Journalist Ian McGarry explained the situation in detail on the Transfer Window Podcast.
“It is our information that we have obtained here at the Transfer Window that Thiago Silva has received a significant financial offer to continue his career in the Middle East, which of course in terms of money would be attractive because it would be tax-free and the leagues, of course, are not overly competitive. But Silva himself is extremely competitive.”
However, co-host Duncan Castles revealed that Chelsea are happy to renew his deal. But it will be down to the defender if he wishes to accept the London club’s contract and play in Europe or increase his wages by going to the Middle East.
Unlikely departure
Money can sway most people, and it can convince them to do things they might not have done previously. Silva could be lured away from West London with incentives and financial considerations the defender’s desire remains to play in the World Cup next year.
To do so, he shall need to continue playing at the top level, a prospect Chelsea offer. He may be 37 now, but the Brazilian international’s hunger and determination to be the best remain the same. Of course, things could change in the coming months, but he has not explicitly indicated in any way himself that he wants to leave Stamford Bridge.
Moreover, the Blues would also be determined to keep him, especially since Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger, and Cesar Azpilicueta are also out of contracts next summer. Thus, losing so many players at the same time could be close to a catastrophe for us.

However, as revealed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently, it is only a matter of time before the centre-back signs a new deal. The January transfer window is looming large but fans would be expecting the South American talisman to stay put at the Bridge beyond 2022.
After all, it was with us that he achieved the biggest trophy in club football. Our defence still needs his experience and leadership and if he gets minutes on a regular basis, it would be a surprise to see him call it a day at Stamford Bridge so soon in the summer.
