Transfer News: AS Monaco sporting director reveals Aurelien Tchouameni transfer value amidst links to Chelsea
Speaking to Tuttosport, via Football Italia, as quoted by football.london, AS Monaco sporting director Paul Mitchell has revealed that Aurelien Tchouameni is as expensive as the Grand Casino amidst transfer interest from Chelsea.
The 21-year-old midfielder has been sensational for the French club since joining last year. The midfielder’s performances last term led to him being named the Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year and he has continued his good form into this campaign.
Chelsea have been monitoring the French international amidst a potential move. Jorginho and N’Golo Kante will be out of contract in 2023, courtesy of which it is key to find reinforcements soon.
However, AS Monaco sporting director Paul Mitchell has revealed that the player will not come cheap. The chief also remained determined to explain that they do not wish to sell their prized asset.
“We will assess the situation at the end of the season. The player is under contract until 2024, and his transfer value is the one of a top player. Everything is expensive in Monte Carlo. Let us say that Tchouameni is as expensive as the Grand Casino.”
Everybody has a price
The French club are one of the smartest negotiators in the business. Over the last half a decade, they have negotiated big-money moves for several stars, including Kylian Mbappe, Anthony Martial, Bernardo Silva, Thomas Lemar, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Fabinho, and several others.
Thus, they always try to obtain massive fees for their stars. However, the Blues could take advantage of the fact that Tchouameni will only have two years on his contract in the coming summer. It is likely to become hard to charge a high fee for him after the coming transfer windows.
Moreover, the West London club could use a central midfielder of Tchouameni’s qualities. Marina Granovskaia and co are planning on extending the contracts of Kante and Jorginho, but even with them, it is a thin midfield line. Our current performances are a testament to it.

The presence of someone like the Frenchman could have dug us out of a hole. However, with Billy Gilmour and Conor Gallagher likely to return once their loan moves are completed, Thomas Tuchel shall need to carry out a careful evaluation of the squad before giving the green signal to sign the young star.
