Chelsea learn transfer fee for Porto and Colombia star Luis Diaz amidst heavy competition

According to Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra (h/t The Mirror), Chelsea have learned the transfer fee for the acquisition of Porto and Colombian winger Luis Diaz amidst heavy competition from other European clubs. He has been impressive for his club and country this year, which has seen him become one of the hottest prospects currently.

The 24-year-old has played in 19 matches this season while having 12 goals and two assists in the process. He was also immense for his national team as he tied with Lionel Messi to become the top scorer of Copa America 2020. Having scored four goals, he helped Colombia to a third-place finish in the continental competition.

Sierra conveyed that the Blues have contacted the Portuguese club over a potential move in the future. Premier League is the most probable destination for the talented forward, which could play into the hands of Marina Granovskaia.

The English club has learnt that it would take £42million for them to get the signature of the Colombian. He also has a release clause in his contract, which is more expensive than the price tag as it amounts to £68million. Should the club decide to go all out for him, they would have to deal with heavy competition.

Teams like Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Everton and Liverpool are keeping tabs on the Porto winger for a potential move. That could make it much harder for Thomas Tuchel’s side as it could increase the valuation due to high demand.

A necessary signing?

Looking at the attacker’s excellent displays, he would add more quality to our squad, but the frontline is already brimming with options. And hence, it is tough to see him get into the side currently. He would be a useful signing, but he may get less game time at Stamford Bridge looking at our options.

Cristian Pulisic, Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku have returned from injury whereas Callum Hudon-Odoi has made a mark this term. Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz started to get into their stride recently, showing the high competition in the attacking areas.

Signing Diaz is exciting to think about, but without any outgoings, Diaz would add to our depth at this moment rather than greatly increasing the quality of our immediate starting XI- one that won the UEFA Champions League in May and currently sits at the top of the PL table.
