According to Eurosport (h/t Football.London), Chelsea wants to complete the signature of Aurelien Tchouameni from AS Monaco in the upcoming winter transfer window.
The Frenchman has become one of the best young midfielders in Ligue 1 and is today a regular for Monaco. After a series of consistent performances, the 21-year-old has developed himself into a key player for the club and emerging talent for his country. Furthermore, the Les Bleus midfielder has already made 28 appearances across all competitions this season.
Chelsea have been linked with Tchouameni in recent times. Now, it is believed that the Blues board wants to lure him to Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window.
Thomas Tuchel’s team are currently struggling in the forward and midfield positions. N’Golo Kanté and Mateo Kovačić have missed several matches this season due to injuries, and their absence has shown how vulnerable Chelsea can be in the middle fo the park.
The German manager gave numerous chances to Saúl Ñíguez, Ross Barkley and Hakim Ziyech, but none of them has taken their opportunity to the fullest. Amid such a situation, Thomas Tuchel was forced to play Jorginho even as the Italian continues to recover from back pain.
Whenever players like Kante, Jorginho, Kovacic have played in the central midfield, the team has looked solid to the core. The solidity has enabled strikers and attacking midfielders to play freely up the pitch, making up the numbers in attack.
But, Chelsea must not remain overly dependable on such vital players. It has backfired in the recent matches and could have a long term impact on the season.
Tchouameni’s recent performance has shown that he could take up the role of Jorginho in the squad. The Monaco player has shown excellent passing skills and could play a pivotal role in the middle of the pitch. Furthermore, he can sense the danger in the deep areas and respond to it quickly. What makes the transfer even more exciting is his age which suggests any investment from the Blues will have a long term impact on the team.
