According to SportBild via Sport Witness (h/t The Sun), Borussia Dortmund are looking to seal a loan move for Chelsea star Hakim Ziyech in January.
The 28-year-old playmaker arrived at Stamford Bridge for £33million last summer. Injuries prevented him from maintaining any sort of consistency under Frank Lampard or Thomas Tuchel. However, he did score some vital goals towards the end of the campaign.
Ziyech went on to score in the UEFA Super Cup final at the start of the season. However, he got injured in the same game and has only recently found a way back into the starting line-up. But regardless, he has failed to cement his place as a regular starter in the Blues’ starting XI.
Borussia Dortmund are now looking to provide an escape route for him as his struggle for regular minutes continues. The Bundesliga club is interested in landing his services in January on a potential loan deal. The German outfit is 2nd in their league table and could be looking to add firepower to their ranks. However, they are not the only side interested in the Moroccan ace, with Barcelona also keen on a move.
The playmaker was a wonder-winger for Ajax during his four seasons at the club. He led them to a UCL semi-final and won multiple league titles with them. However, Chelsea have not had the same experience with the attacker.
His most recent outing against Everton was a representation of his poor form when the entire team is not clicking. His passes were wayward and shooting was all over the place. If the Blues are to match the level of Man City and Liverpool, we need to make sure our first-team players are on top form and one of the best in the league in their position.
The former Ajax man could be experiencing a dip in form, but he has never really excelled, courtesy of which there is no reason for the hierarchy to continue keeping him at the club. A loan deal is the likely outcome if he does leave Stamford Bridge next month, but it would be better if we take a permanent decision soon on his future.
There are no doubts about his talent, but at 28, Ziyech is running out of time to prove his worth. Unless he produces match-winning performances in the coming weeks, there is very little reason to keep him at the club. After all, the Blues possess a wide array of attackers in their frontline who are hungry for minutes.
