According to Metro, Chelsea youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi has lauded Blues’ performance in the second half against Aston Villa and suggested the arrival of Romelu Lukaku changed things up.
Romelu Lukaku has failed to pick up his scintillating goalscoring form at Chelsea. The last time ‘Big Rom’ netted a goal for Thomas Tuchel’s team before yesterday was in September. Massive pressure surrounded him because of the expectations at Stamford Bridge. But the Belgian international put his critics to rest yesterday when he gave a game-winning impact after coming from the bench in the second half.
Lukaku was quick-witted to find space between opponent defenders and headed Callum Hudson-Odoi’s cross into the net. There was no chance for Emiliano Martínez as he stood like a spectator.
The Belgian was super active in the penalty box yesterday as his smartness gifted Chelsea a penalty kick which Jorginho converted to make it 3-1 for the visitors.
Callum Hudson-Odoi, who set up Lukaku’s goal, gave an impressive performance last night. The Chelsea academy graduate suggested that the attacks from the Blues were more effective in the second half, and the intensity only increased after Lukaku entered.
“But we adapted very well in the second half; we got over, and then obviously we started to become more ruthless in front of goal and tried to create more chances in and around the box, especially when Rom came on.”
Hudson-Odoi also revealed how Lukaku made a big difference with his presence on the pitch. The Belgian is known for holding off defenders until help arrives, and he successfully showcased his skills last night.
“He was very good for us to hold the ball up, being around the box and to create chances, so it was a very good performance from us.”
Romelu Lukaku’s return to top form is nothing but a piece of good news for Thomas Tuchel at this moment. The German manager has been struggling to put up a strong team amidst the absences of key players. And the win gave a massive boost to the former Dortmund manager’s intentions of winning the league this season.
Lukaku has just returned from covid isolation, and thus, his fitness could be vulnerable at this moment. Thomas Tuchel has to use him with caution to avoid long term problems but if his performance against the Villans was anything to go by, it seems like he is raring to go and looking to make up for lost time.
