Thomas Tuchel has revealed that Romelu Lukaku wants to start for Chelsea against West Ham
Speaking in his pre-match press conference (h/t football.london), Thomas Tuchel revealed that Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku wants to start against West Ham on Saturday.
The 28-year-old started the season in brilliant fashion with four goals in four games. He suffered through a goalless period later before picking up an injury. The Belgian has been on the bench for the last three games but has come against Man United and Watford.
He was not able to contribute to the goals, but his hold-up play against the Hornets showed what the Blues were missing for over a month. The striker is continuing to put in the hard yards in training ahead of the trip to West Ham on Saturday.
Tuchel revealed in his pre-match press conference that the centre-forward is eager to start the game. Having the giant back for the match should add bute to the Blues frontline.
“He (Lukaku) is in training, he is eager to start, he wants to start. It is difficult for Romelu and all the other guys after injuries to hit top level. We should try always to reach it. Watford caused us a lot of problems, didn not allow us many chances, and it was a mental game to hang in there and be ready to be clinical. Tomorrow will be new questions.”
Big-Rom back amongst the goals?
The Belgian international was looking hungry for a strike at Vicarage Road. Although he was only brought on as a substitute, his fitness levels looked intact, and he was using his body freely.
More often than not, this is good news for any player that has been through an injury. We need a striker up top that can guarantee us goals week-in and week-out. We have had to rely on the brilliance of our full-backs in recent times to secure victories.
The return of Lukaku will eliminate that as he can also carry the frontline comfortably. However, while the game is important and we need the three points, the Blues cannot afford to aggravate the striker’s injury.
