Barcelona DOF Mateu Alemany concedes loss of faith in Ousmane Dembele amidst Chelsea interest
According to The Express, Barcelona director of football Mateu Alemany has admitted that the club has lost faith in Chelsea target Ousmane Dembele ahead of the 2022 summer transfer window.
The Frenchman moved to the Nou Camp in 2016 with much pomp. While he has had moments of magic for the Blaugrana, a lack of consistency coupled with injuries has seen him underachieve.
Dembele’s contract at the Nou Camp expires in the summer, meaning that he could be potentially available as a free agent. This augurs well for Chelsea who are keen to rebuild their squad under the stewardship of Todd Boehly.
Barcelona for their part were keen to extend Dembele’s stay at the club. With time running out, it would appear that the Blaugrana are losing faith in the winger’s willingness to stay put.
Alemany goes on to admit that there is nothing new to report on the matter. Negotiations have hit a standstill and it appears to have been the case over the last few months. Given that the 25-year-old does not appear to be taking the initiative, it is only natural to assume that he is open to a new challenge elsewhere.
“There is no news about him, just like in the last six or seven months. There is no negotiation with Dembele’s representative at the moment.”
The Barcelona honcho also shifted the focus onto Dembele’s entourage who he believes have a better idea of the player’s intentions. Alemany does appear to hint at an unflattering opinion on the matter but that does not appear to hold much weight.
“Dembele’s future will be known by him and his agents, I have my own personal opinion on this matter, but it is beside the point.”
Chelsea could do with an infusion of quality to their squad and Dembele will add just that. Christian Pulisic’s future at Stamford Bridge has been called into question, meaning that a new winger will need to be brought in should the American leave. In Dembele, they more than have an able talent ready to take the Premier League by storm.
At 25, Dembele is at a crossroads in his career. Possessing massive potential and ability, he is yet to fulfil that promise. He has worked under Thomas Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund and a reunion with the German could be what is necessary to kick-start a resurgence.

Dembele could develop into a world-beater at Chelsea. The Blues will do well not to miss out on landing a player of the 25-year-old’s ability, that too on a free transfer. He has been a changed man under Xavi Hernandez and has become Barca’s chief creator up front in important games. If we can get him in, it would be a very wise signing for the short and the long term.
