“Stay safe”- 28-year-old Chelsea star provides positive update after contracting Covid-19

Covid-19 struck Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku reveals he is feeling ‘much better’ ahead of Wolves clash

According to his official Instagram account, as quoted by the club’s official website, Covid-19 riddled Chelsea ace Romelu Lukaku revealed that he is feeling much better ahead of the game against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The centre-forward returned from injury nearly four weeks ago but was yet to earn a league start. His last start was against Brentford in October and he could have been in line to start against Everton on Thursday night.

However, a day before the game, Lukaku, alongside Callum Hudson-Odoi, Timo Werner, and Ben Chilwell contracted the fatal disease. This forced Thomas Tuchel into putting out a team without a proper No 9.

Lukaku could have affected the game against his former side but had to stay put due to the positive test. He has now revealed that he is feeling much better and appreciates the messages of support from fans. He wrote on his Instagram story, as quoted by the club’s official website:

‘A few days ago, I tested positive for COVID. I am feeling good now and I am in isolation for the next few days. I’ve seen the messages so thank you for that. Stay safe people.

Need the Belgian back and firing

The Blues did everything right on Thursday night against the Toffees but were woeful in the final third. Mason Mount was the chief creator and had to be the goal-scorer too. It was too much pressure on the 22-year-old, with Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech failing to step up.

However, if we had our big Belgian in the squad, it could have made the world of difference. Quite possibly for the first time in his Chelsea tenure, Tuchel did not have quality on the bench to call upon and change the game. Ross Barkley and Saul Niguez hurt our chances of winning the match rather than the other way around.

There is a lot of dead weight in the squad, and it is clear why these players only play when the first-team members are out. There is no quality in our depth, at least nowhere near the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.

Our first team is good enough to win competitions, and we need them back as soon as possible. Lukaku is a massive part of it, not least because he is our club-record signing. He came back to Stamford Bridge to prove a point, and it is time for him to deliver once he is back.

Tuchel shall be now paying attention to the game against Wolves on Sunday and he shall have to cope without his 28-year-old striker for it.
