Chelsea playmaker reveals he is keen to make an eventual return to former club

Chelsea ace Hakim Ziyech admits he would like to return to Ajax Amsterdam in the future

Speaking in an interview, as quoted by football.london, Chelsea star Hakim Ziyech has revealed that he would like to return to Ajax Amsterdam in the future.

The Moroccan joined the Blues last summer, as Frank Lampard spent over £200million to revamp the squad. Ziyech did not have the best of debut seasons but was pivotal in the knockout stages of the FA Cup and the Champions League.

The playmaker has quite a lot of experience in Europe’s premier competition, having played in it for a couple of seasons at Ajax as well. He was also the driving force behind the Dutch club’s run to the competition’s semi-final stage in 2019.

The 27-year-old recently revealed that he would like to return to the Eredivisie club in the future. He clearly appears to have enjoyed his time in the Netherlands and has his heart set on a return to the country.

“I would love to (return to Ajax in the future). I had a fantastic time there. It is a place where I have felt at home, and whether it will ever happen, the future will tell. But, if it is up to me, then it will definitely happen.”

Focusing on the job at hand

The Moroccan international got off to a great start this season by scoring in the UEFA Super Cup final. However, he also got injured in the same game. He has done well in recent weeks, contributing to the score-line against Leicester, Juventus, Watford, and West Ham United.

Ziyech needs to build on this good run of form right now rather than wondering about his next move. His ties to the Dutch club are well documented, but he needs to prove his worth at the London club at the moment. The Blues are in a three-way title race with Manchester City and Liverpool and need their best players to keep their eye on the ball.

We are going to need his services in the coming weeks, and he needs to maintain a level of consistency without getting injured. The playmaker was one of the best players in the Champions League during his time at Ajax, but we are yet to witness similar performances in a blue jersey.

Regardless, there is still time for him to stamp his mark on the club and impress the supporters. The upcoming weeks are going to be crucial, and if Ziyech can pull off match-winning performances, it would do a world good for Thomas Tuchel and co.
