Transfer News: Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland prefers Bundesliga stay or La Liga move amid Chelsea interest
Speaking in an interview with Wettfreunde.net (h/t ESPN), Gianluca di Marzio has revealed that Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland prefers to stay in the Bundesliga or move to La Liga amidst interest from Chelsea. The striker apparently believes Real Madrid and Barcelona are the only two clubs right for his career at this moment.
Haaland has a release clause worth €75million in his current contract which will activate next summer. That has seen him get linked with an exit from Dortmund with many clubs interested in securing his services. However, Barcelona and Real Madrid are the only destinations in his mind as he believes they are the right steps to take in the future.
Man United, Manchester City and Newcastle United have also shown an interest in the Norwegian, but this could put things out of their hand. Di Marzio added that the starlet could decide to stay with his current club as the latter have put a new contract on the table. They believe that staying for another season would help the youngster in his growth moving forward.
No Erling Haaland to Chelsea?
While we have brought several attackers into the team over the past few years, it would still be a blow missing out on Haaland. The former RB Salzburg and Molde attacker would have strengthened our frontline to a large extent. Tuchel himself managed Borussia Dortmund, Haaland’s current club, in the past but it remains to be seen if that fact becomes relevant in any related news going forward.
Some of our attackers have struggled at times, and a decision may have to be taken on their futures. Hakim Ziyech, for example, has failed to showcase his quality consistently, which has put him in a precarious situation. He has recently been linked with a loan move away from the club which would also include a mandatory buy option.
Others like Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic have not reached the levels they had shown at their previous clubs. If the club thought it was fit to do so, then we could have sacrificed the game time for any of such forwards to bring Haaland into the first-team fold at Stamford Bridge.
A move to Stamford Bridge cannot be completely ruled out until we actually get official news on Haaland’s future. At least that’s what the Chelsea fans would be hoping. As current UEFA Champions League holders with a project arguably as, if not more, exciting than any of the aforementioned La Liga clubs, it is confusing as to why the Norwegian wouldn’t want a move to Chelsea.

But that, of course, is his own personal choice and one for his family and agent to address along with him. A lot of factors would have to be taken into consideration to facilitate a move for the Bundesliga forward. It remains to be seen how the situation develops in the coming days as the January transfer window is on the horizon.
