“No secret”- Bundesliga club chief admits Chelsea target can leave under ‘certain conditions’

Borussia Dortmund chief says they could lose Erling Haaland amid Chelsea interest

In an interview with German outlet Sport1 (h/t Mirror), Borussia Dortmund chief executive Michael Zorc suggested that Erling Haaland will be allowed to leave the club under “certain conditions” amid Chelsea interest.

Erling Haaland is one of the best young forwards in the world currently. The Norwegian player has been in exceptional form for Dortmund in recent seasons. His aggressiveness and goal-scoring abilities have been touching new heights. In yesterday’s Der Klassiker loss, he scored an equalizer against table-toppers Bayern Munich, which took his total goal tally to 11 in 18 Bundesliga matches this season.

Naturally, top teams would be looking for gaps in the relationship between the 21-year-old player and BVB. However, the firm stand from the German team was crushing the hopes of the concerned clubs. But recent admission from chief executive Michael Zorc has given a massive boost to Chelsea, who have been long linked with the former RB Leipzig player.

Zorc said that despite having a contract term until 2024, there are some conditions based on which Haaland can choose to exit Signal Iduna Park in the near future.

“The fact is that he has a contract. But it’s also a fact, and this is no secret, that he can leave the club under certain conditions.”

It is believed that the German Executive could be hinting towards Haalnad’s release clause of £75m that could come into play. With the addition of specific add-ons, the round-up value could stand at £90m.

Michael Zorc fearful that certain conditions could cost them Erling Haaland.

The German executive hasn’t ruled out a possible move for the starlet and suggested they are in the process of sorting out the situation.

“Both Erling and the club are dealing with the issue very professionally. We’ll see how things progress.”

However, The BVB chief revealed that they don’t require any extraordinary funds at this moment. Moreover, it’s the player rather than the money that’s more important for their long term future.

“There is, despite the pandemic, no economic need to sell him. That is also a fact. We will sit down and see how the talks go.”

Chelsea opted for Romelu Lukaku last season and paid a hefty sum for the transfer. Going after Haaland at this moment could cost a fortune. However, the investment could bring emphatic on-field results for the West London team.

Werner has continued to disappoint with his goal tally.

After the injury of Romelu Lukkau and Timo Werner, the vulnerability of Chelsea’s depth has become apparent. Due to the situation, Thomas Tuchel had to play Kai Havertz in a central position. Thus, a quality forward option like the Norwegian could cover up for such future disasters and boost the squad’s strength massively.

But given his record and status, it is highly unlikely he settles for a place on the bench. With Werner’s struggles and Lukaku’s age, it may not be long before we count on the Norwegian to lead our attack week in, week out. But for that, he would first have to arrive at Stamford Bridge, and at the moment, it doesn’t seem like a guarantee that he will.
