According to the Italian publication Tuttosport via Football Italia (h/t Daily Mail Online), AC Milan have named a massive price tag to Chelsea following their enquiry on Theo Hernandez ahead of the January transfer window. He has developed into a highly regarded fullback since moving to Italy and has been crucial for his side’s rise to the top in recent years.
The Blues are in a precarious situation as Ben Chilwell is set to miss the rest of the season due to surgery for his ACL injury. Thomas Tuchel is eager to bring in reinforcement in the winter transfer window as Marcos Alonso is the only option in the team.
The West London club have contacted Milan over Hernandez’s availability next month, but the Italian club have no intention of selling one of their best assets. As a result, they have placed a valuation of £50million to put an end to Chelsea’s interest. He has a contract with the Rossoneri that will last until 2024 and is currently in negotiations for an extension till 2026.
The Frenchman has interest from Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, so it remains to be seen whether they would try their card in the winter transfer window. Tuchel’s team also have shortlisted Lucas Digne, Nicolas Tagliafico and Sergino Dest as potential targets to meet their needs at left-back.
The price tag is a hefty one indeed, and it may force us to look at other options. However, if the club believes they have the money to prise the fullback to Stamford Bridge, then we could try for him. But we should not be hasty and look at other options before making a decision.
We may potentially face other issues like the France international’s intentions as he is currently engaged in talks over a renewal. If he does not have any interest in a transfer to England, then it would be out of our hands, and we will have to look elsewhere.
Since moving to San Siro, the 24-year-old has scored 17 goals alongside 18 assists from 101 appearances across all competitions. He would be a splendid signing and could also be a long term option for Marcos Alonso, who had mixed performances this term.
Time will tell how the situation pans out in the coming days as the transfer window will shortly open. Even if we miss out on the France star, it would not be the end of the road as we have other options in the shortlist who could do a similar job.
