Barcelona boss Xavi is keen to sign Chelsea defenders Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta
According to Daily Express (h/t Daily Mail), newly-appointed Barcelona’s manager Xavi is planning to raid Chelsea for their defenders Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta.
The Barcelona legend is looking to bring in the duo as a part of their rebuild next summer. Both Christensen and Azpilicueta are out of contracts next summer and will potentially be available as free agents.
Barca are in financial mess due to their debt which stands at more than £1billion, and Xavi is aiming for potential bargains to improve the squad. The former Spanish international has already made his first signing as he brought back Dani Alves to the Nou Camp.
Christensen and Azpilicueta have played a key role in Chelsea’s transformation under Thomas Tuchel and the west Londoners are in talks with the duo to sign a contract extension but nothing has been agreed as of now.
Chelsea’s defense is currently one of the strongest in the Premier League, having conceded just four goals from 11 matches in the ongoing season.
However, the Chelsea boss had earlier revealed that he expects good news surrounding Christensen’s contract situation. The German coach revealed that all parties are on the same page over a new deal that would keep the Dane at Stamford Bridge in the years to come.
“For Andreas, from my point of view, everybody wants the same thing, the coach wants the same thing, the club wants the same thing and the player wants the same thing.
Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger are also in the final years of their contracts at Chelsea. The Blues face the unenviable possibility of going into the summer sans four experienced defenders. It will be a difficult ask to replace all four players

Azpilicueta is Chelsea’s skipper and is an important piece in the squad as he can play both in central defense or a wing back. The defence has been the backbone of Tuchel’s rebuild at Chelsea. The German will be hoping that the Blues management management can end the suspense over the contract situation soon.
