“My Football Club”- Some fans react as Chelsea win inaugural FIFA award at Ballon d’Or ceremony

Chelsea fans react as club wins inaugural Club of the Year award by France Football at Ballon d’Or 2021 ceremony

According to the club’s official Twitter account, France Football named Chelsea as the Club of the Year at the Ballon d’Or ceremony on Monday night.

It is a proud moment to be a Blues fan, especially since this is the first edition of the accolade. However, Chelsea were bound to win it. We won the Champions League last season and won the UEFA Super Cup as well. The Women’s team also lifted the WSL title last season.

Both teams have not dropped a beat this season, with the men’s team top of the Premier League table and the women’s side second in their league. However, the Club of the Year was not the only accolade dished out.

Best Club in the world?

The coveted Ballon d’Or award was also handed out, as Lionel Messi swooped it up for a record 7th time. Jorginho finished 3rd in the rankings. N’Golo Kante was not too behind on the list, as he was 5th on the shortlist. Romelu Lukaku was 12th after his impressive performances with Inter Milan last season- not to mention his displays with Belgium and Chelsea in the last five months.

22-year-old Mason Mount occupied the 19th spot on the list, while Cesar Azpilicueta rounded it off by finishing 29th. The women’s side ousted them, as they had four players in the Top 10, with Sam Kerr finishing the highest, in 3rd spot.

Edouard Mendy narrowly missed out on the Yashin trophy, as he finished 2nd to Gianluigi Donnarumma. All in all, it was a fine evening for the Blues as they rejoiced in their tuxes.

This is truly an honour for the club to win this award because it underlines the teamwork that has gone into our success. One could say that Frank Lampard is also a deserved recipient for this award, even though he hasn’t been affiliated with the club since January this year, because of the foundations of success he laid down for us.

Let us now see how some fans reacted on Twitter to all of our accolades on the night, not least being named as the Club of the Year.
