Transfer Neww: Fabrizio Romano reveals FC Barcelona not concerned about Chelsea interest for Gavi

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, FC Barcelona are not concerned about the interest from Chelsea in their midfield starlet Gavi. They are currently engaged with the youngster for a contract extension to ward off other clubs.

The 17-year-old emerged from the youth ranks and quickly gained prominence in the first team this season. He was called up by Luis Enrique due to his performances and has also fared well in the national team. The young midfielder has accepted the pressure put on him as he has excelled at club level so far this season.

Having made such an impression so early in his career, the Blues decided to try their hand to price him away. He also has a relatively low release clause worth £42million which Roman Abramovich is ready to trigger.

Barcelona not worried about Chelsea interest in Gavi says Fabrizio Romano.
Gavi glides past Marco Verratti.

“Barcelona are not worried by Chelsea rumours for Gavi, as things stand now. Talks are progressing in the last weeks in order to complete the contract extension soon. Barça board proposal is on the table for 5 years contract – negotiations ongoing with Gavi.”

Romano mentions that negotiations are on the right track, and Joan Laporta hopes to complete the deal soon. He added that the current offer from Barca is a five years contract which would keep the teenager at Camp Nou for a long time.

The Blaugrana club also want to raise his release clause to £840m to eradicate the possibility of activation. The Spaniard also seems to be happy with life with the Catalans are a move away would be tough to convince him.

The Spain international is a regular with the La Liga club and is a La Masia prospect who came through the ranks. The English club has high competition in midfield and we can not guarantee him adequate game time.

With the arrival of Xavi as the new manager, many have tipped Gavi to reach even further heights. In such circumstances, it is unlikely that we can convince him to leave an environment where he is excelling.
