Thomas Tuchel still holds Manchester United as title contenders for this season
According to Football. London, Thomas Tuchel is wary of the quality of player Manchester United possess and thinks the Red Devils would be able to give fair competition to Chelsea for this season’s Premier League title.
After a humiliating 4-1 defeat to Watford, Ed Woodward and the United board sacked club icon Ole Gunnar Solskjær from the managerial position. The start of the season has been chaotic for Manchester United, and one to forget for the players. If it wasn’t for the individual brilliance of some of their players, especially Cristiano Ronaldo, things could have been way worse for them.
The club is currently hovering around the mid-table area after a run of underwhelming results. And when it comes to points on the board and performances on the pitch, one would have to be incredibly optimistic to still consider them as title challenges.
And it seems Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is one of those people. Speaking ahead of the showdown against Michael Carrick’s Blues this Sunday, the former Borussia Dortmund manager said:
“Yeah, but maybe I still am [expecting a title challenge],”
The former Paris Saint-German boss pointed out the high-quality player that the United team possesses currently and how they can turn things around with their performance on the pitch. If there is anything we have learnt since Sir Alex Ferguson’s time at Old Trafford, it is that the Red Devils must not be underestimated.
“Once you let them perform, you can see in seconds and minutes the full potential and talent of these players at the highest level.”
Even though Solskjær failed, nobody can doubt the quality this Manchester United team have. Upfront, they have two of the most decorated forwards in modern football – Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani. In midfield, they have creativity coupled with reliability in the form of Bruno Fernandes.

In such a case, the added caution from Tuchel is justifiable. United, after all, have players that can hurt Chelsea. But the Blues are no slouches themselves. We have the quality and depth to be able to put an unstable United team to the sword, and what our fans should be hoping for going into this high-profile game.
