Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel clears air surrounding Antonio Rudiger following Leicester City win
Speaking after the victory against Leicester City in the Premier League (h/t Chelsea official website), Thomas Tuchel has cleared the uncertainty surrounding the situation of Antonio Rudiger amidst contract negotiations. The defender is yet to agree to an extension to prolong his stay at Stamford Bridge.
The 28-year-old will see his contract expire at the end of the 2021-22 season and is currently in negotiations over a renewal. He can legally agree to a pre-contract agreement with the other clubs in the January transfer window should he decide.
Rudiger has become an integral part of the backline after the arrival of Tuchel, who helped him get back his place in the first team after being sidelined by Frank Lampard. It has helped the club to top the league while having the best defence.
“It does not affect this mentality, it does not affect his quality and it does absolutely not affect his behaviour. He is fully committed to Chelsea right now. I am absolutely sure he feels the trust and respect and the love from the club and from the spectators.”
The German boss has revealed that the contract situation does not affect the performance of his defender. He added how the centre-back is fully committed to the Blues and feels respected by the club and the supporters. The boss also asks for patience on the matter while hoping for a favourable outcome.
“He is a big competitor and he is in exactly the right spot. He is in the most competitive league, he is at a club where he really matters and that suits him perfectly, so let’s be patient and hopefully we have a good ending.”
