Talking after the match (h/t Metro), Burnley manager Sean Dyche agreed with Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel that Burnley were ‘lucky’ to get a point at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.
However, the Burnley manager also added that – it’s the beauty of football and that’s the reason why everyone loves the game.
Burnley, who are fighting relegation somehow managed to get away with a 1-1 draw against the Blues after being completely outplayed by the London club. The west Londoners had 25 shots in the match but managed to score just one goal thanks to the header from Kai Havertz in the 33rd minute.
Goalkeeper Nick Pope was the star man for Burnley as he kept them afloat early on after saving shots from Callum Hudson-Odoi and Jorginho. He conceded in the 33rd minute but never let his confidence down despite that.
Pope’s efforts were rewarded when substitute Matej Vydra pounced to score an equaliser eleven minutes from the time.
After the match, Chelsea coach was visibly frustrated and he said that Burnely were ‘very lucky’ to get away with a point in this match and the Blues deserved all three points.
Responding to Tuchel’s comment (h/t Metro), Dyche said:
“(We) were very lucky but it’s football. So that’s why everyone loves the game because it’s possible to win matches like this. I stick with my feelings on the sidelines, I have proved from the data we have now that we had a fantastic match. I liked the attitude and concentration levels.”
“It was a fantastic effort so I am super happy. It just happens in football like this sometimes.”
The unlikely outcome came on the back of Burnley’s first league win of the season when they beat Brentford 3-1 at home last Saturday. The draw against Chelsea means Burnley are 18th on the points table with 8 points from 11 games, while the Blues remain top with a four-point lead over Liverpool after the Reds lost to West Ham United earlier today.
