“Our aim”- 21-year-old Chelsea star on the key to his recent success while mentioning the European dream

Chelsea star Reece James opens up on his recent success and the Champions League dream

According to the club’s official website, Chelsea defender Reece James has weighed in on his recent success while also opening up on the Champions League dream.

James has been in terrific form throughout this season and is one of the best fullbacks/wingbacks in the world on current form. Outperforming Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and Manchester City ace Joao Cancelo is no mean deal. However, constantly delivering is right up the 21-year-old Chelsea star’s alley.

The Englishman has a goal involvement of five goals and five assists from 14 matches this season. He is incredibly enough, Chelsea’s top scorer this season and continues to go from strength to strength.

James had credited Blues manager, Thomas Tuchel for instilling aggressiveness among his fullbacks and encouraging them to attack where possible. Being able to find the net consistently has done James’ confidence a world of good.

“I think it is down to him [Tuchel]. He wants our wing-backs to be very aggressive and attack whenever we get the chance. Obviously scoring helps with anyone’s confidence but I believe in my own ability and so when I get a chance.”

Despite achieving European glory last season, James is hungry for more. He admits that the Blues remain keen to defend their title this season and believe there is no reason why they cannot succeed. This admission will come as music to the ears of Chelsea fans.

“That [Champions League] is definitely our aim. There is no reason why we can’t. You saw the quality of our performance against such a top side. We just have to take it game by game and see where we can get to.”

It is always a wonderful sight to see one of our academy graduates rise through the ranks and achieve success in the first team. What makes it even sweeter is the increasing importance James has been afforded within the first-team setup.

With the best years of his career ahead of him, the 21-year-old will surely hit bigger heights in the future.
