Newcastle United joins Chelsea in race to sign Marcelo Brozovic from Inter Milan
According to The Sun, Newcastle United have joined Chelsea in the race to sign Inter Milan’s Marcelo Brozovic, who wants £5million a year in wages to stay at the San Siro. Meanwhile, Inter are only willing to pay him £4.2m-a-year.
Brozovic’s contract with Serie A champions Inter is out of contract in the summer, with Newcastle United now looking at him as a potential target along with The Blues.
Since the £300m Saudi takeover last month, the Magpies are looking to spend big in the next transfer market and would be looking to pip Chelsea and other potential suitors for the Croatian midfielder.
Newcastle United, whose main aim would be to beat relegation, want to add some fresh faces to their squad and with the money available up their arsenal, Newcastle are looking to spend lavishly on both transfer fees and wages for the Croatian international.
The West London club are also interested in Inter’s deep-lying playmaker. With Saul’s loan from Atletico Madrid not going the way it was expected to.
Talks of a new contract with Inter Milan are currently on hold since they started months ago but there are plans to continue talks next week. However, there are no guarantees that it will be signed.
The former Dinamo Zagreb midfielder has scored 20 goals in 209 Serie A appearances since joining them in 2015. Meanwhile, The Sun also claims that he would prefer to stay at Inter as he and his family love Milan and are very well settled.
Brozovic, along with Mateo Kovacic and Luka Modric, has been part of a golden generation of Croatia. He will surely be an asset to Chelsea or Newcastle if he decides to take the next step in his career.
