Newcastle United could be in the fray to sign Chelsea target and FC Porto attacker Luis Diaz
According to The Shields Gazette, Newcastle United could enter the mix to sign Chelsea transfer target and Columbian attacker Luis Diaz
The 24-year-old has scored 36 goals and provided 15 assists in 113 matches across all competitions for FC Porto. The Columbian professional footballer has become an instrumental part of the Portuguese club. He is on the radar of some of the top clubs like Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid apart from Chelsea.
And it is also suggested that the Toons are also interested in securing his services. Diaz has been making waves and could inject a breath of fresh air into Stamford Bridge. The Blues compete across several competitions throughout the campaign. With a hectic schedule on the cards, the West London club could benefit from reinforcement in their attacking department.
Chelsea have faced injury issues to key players like Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner, and Mateo Kovacic. Mason Mount also had to pull out of England’s latest World Cup Qualifying fixture against San Marino due to a dental injury.
While those fitness issues would be dealt with sooner rather than later, there is always the possibility of first-team players being unavailable for selection for whatever reasons. In such a time, the depth and strength on the bench are what counts.
The Tyneside club has been gaining a lot of interest ever since their new ownership took charge which makes them not only one of the richest clubs in the Premier League, but also the world at the moment.
The Columbian international helped his club edge past AC Milan in their UEFA Champions League fixture earlier this month with a 65th-minute winner. This helped Porto jump into the second position of their CL qualifying group ahead of Atletico Madrid and the Rossoneri.
Diaz has been making a name for himself in Portugal where he plies his trade. On top of that, the lure of a club playing in the UEFA Champions League is also something players would appreciate as a compliment to their ability and achievements.

However, it remains to be seen if he actually ends up making a move to the Premier League. If he does, those in Chelsea blue would be hoping that he chooses the current Champions League holders over other potential suitors.
