Transfer News: Newcastle are keen on signing Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic
According to Italian outlet Calciomercato (h/t Football.London), Newcastle United have shown interest in signing USMNT star Christian Pulisic amid lack of playing time at Chelsea.
Injuries and a lack of reliable performances saw Cristian Pulisic fall from the pecking order under Thomas Tuchel. Among the 3 Premier League games the American player featured this season, he only started one. Amid speculations over his Chelsea future, Newcastle United have shown interest in the forward if the Blues decide to offload him.
The 23-year-old player enjoyed early success under Frank Lampard. The transfer ban obliged the Chelsea legend to use the available players in full potential, and the American winger flourished under such an environment. But in recent seasons, his performance dropped drastically. One reason can be his lack of fitness. But the kind of squad Chelsea now poses made it difficult for him to get game time.
There is no real shortage of attackers at Chelsea. Tuchel’s wing-play has also tended to focus more on full-backs such as Marcos Alonso, Ben Chilwell, and Reece James rather than natural wingers such as Pulisic. Even up front, the American faces competition from stellar names such as Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, and Callum Hudson-Odoi.
At his age, he does pose as a good investment for a number of clubs. After all, he has proved his pedigree at Borussia Dortmund as well as Chelsea, and a team like Newcastle can benefit from his addition. But the Blues understand that there is a need for depth.

Chelsea’s recent injury dilemma involving forward players obliged Thomas Tuchel to push attacking midfielder Kai Havertz into a more central role. It also went on to show how a few injury issues could scupper the season if the club doesn’t have ample depth.
Wanting to keep him and actually keeping him are two different things, however. Tuchel should be more lenient with providing him opportunities because we all know the talent he possesses. Hopefully, we find a place for him in the squad going forward and keep the electric winger with us for more seasons to come.
