Speaking to L’Equipe (h/t Metro), AS Monaco star, Aurelien Tchouameni has brushed aside the links connecting him to Chelsea and other European clubs. He is one of the most highly-rated youngsters in the world currently due to his consistent performances for both club and country.
Tchouameni plays as a defensive midfielder for both Monaco and France and has been a commanding presence at the heart of the midfield. Having joined from Bordeaux in 2020, he has quickly made grounds at his new club and is a regular for the side.
As a result, he is now wanted by clubs across Europe like Manchester United, Real Madrid and Chelsea. He has opened up on these interests and has shrugged off the links by saying that they mean nothing.
“It’s not real life, but it is the media world, the football business. They talk about me today but tomorrow, they’ll be talking about another. It’s flattering, but I don’t wake up in the morning thinking about it.”
The 21-year-old further mocked the media by saying that he had seen similar news before at his previous clubs. However, he added that if he wants to leave, then he will make it known to the outside world.
“When I started in Bordeaux, the media were already wondering every summer if Aurelien Tchouameni was going to move to a bigger club. If I start to think that I’m going to leave, it will show directly in my performances on the pitch.”
His words would be a blow to clubs that wanted to sign the defensive midfielder and add to their squad. It seems that he does not have any thoughts of a move in his mind and is solely focused on improving at his current club. At least for the moment.
The positive is that this shows he has the right mindset to succeed at the top flight where many have failed. And that would be greatly appreciated by the parties that are keeping tabs on him. If anything, this should only make us want him more.
