According to The Telegraph (Subscription Required), Chelsea superstar Mason Mount has shown no urgency in renewing his contract and is happy with life at Stamford Bridge. He had recently featured in his side’s 4-0 win against Juventus in the Champions League.
Mount underwent surgery on his teeth due to an infection, which saw him miss some matches and is slowly getting integrated back into the team. He has played in nine Premier League matches this season and has scored three goals while providing two assists to his teammates.
As an academy graduate, he is a fan-favourite at the club and has been immense since he made his breakthrough in the first team. He was sensational under Frank Lampard and has carried that form into the rein under Thomas Tuchel. He is a crucial part of the team moving forward as the club looks to attain multiple titles this season.
The midfielder is enjoying his time with Tuchel and is in no rush to agree to an extension. His current contract will see him at the club for two and a half more years, explaining his lack of urgency. He wants to focus on his team’s success and leave the contract situation for later- a situation that isn’t causing the club any ‘panic’ as well.
Marina Granovskaia wants to prioritise the renewal of their centre-backs since they could potentially lose four of them for free in the summer. It could leave a gap in the defence which may be difficult to address instantly- a potential problem compounded by Tuchel using three centre-backs in his Chelsea set-up.
The West London club and the player are not concerned about the situation, nor should we. Earlier it was said that the 22-year-old felt underappreciated by the board since he felt their treatment was unfair, compared to others.
Supposedly, a renewal is being discussed to fix the situation. Mount would feel loved at the club, and as someone who has been here since his childhood, it is safe to say that he would feel the same towards his team.
Currently, we are in a good situation, and he has played an important role in helping us reach where we are right now. There is still some time left on his contract and the Englishman hasn’t explicitly stated that he is unhappy at the club. So, the club has plenty of time left to sort out a contract renewal but must also understand that keeping talented, young players like him at Stamford Bridge is important for the club’s future.
