Opponent Watch: Manchester United who will be their new manager for their tie against Chelsea on Sunday
According to an official press release (h/t Football.London), Manchester United will take on Premier League leaders Chelsea with interim manager Michael Carrick in charge. The game is scheduled to take place on November 28, Sunday.
The announcement came after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was dismissed as manager of the Red Devils earlier on Sunday following strings of bad results in the last month or so. Carrick will be taking the hot seat till the time an interim manager is announced at Old Trafford.
His first test will be against Villarreal in the Champions League game in the midweek before he heads to Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
The Blues, who currently sit at the Premier League summit are already 12 points ahead of the United and a win in their backyard next week will take them 15 points clear of them. The Red Devils are currently 7th on the points table.
The 20-time Premier League champions have been linked with Zinedine Zidane and a host of managers in charge but it seems Carrick will be handed the baton for the next few games. An official statement via the club website reads (h/t Football.London):
“Manchester United announces that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has left his role as manager. Ole will always be a legend at Manchester United and it is with regret that we have reached this difficult decision.”
“Michael Carrick will now take charge of the team for forthcoming games, while the club looks to appoint an interim manager to the end of the season.”
