Transfer News: Leeds United want Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley in January window
According to Daily Mail, Premier League side, Leeds United are closely monitoring midfielder Ross Barkley situation at Chelsea ahead of the January transfer window.
The English international has found it extremely tough to get game time under Thomas Tuchel. The midfielder was once again an unused sub during Chelsea’s convincing 3-0 win over Leicester City on Saturday.
The 27-year-old is currently way down the pecking order in midfield and since his move to West London club in 2018, the former Everton star has found it next to impossible to break into Chelsea’s starting XI over the years.
Leeds United are currently 17th in the Premier League table are struggling to repeat the fireworks they did last season. Marcelo Bielsa will surely love to add some experience and freshness to the squad that can help them avoid relegation this term, which seems a possibility in the current scenario.
Barkley transfer saga continues
Barkley himself would look to get some more playing time, especially knowing that a lack of it has alienated him from the Three Lions set-up. So far, he has made just eight appearances for the European Champions this season.
The former Everton star, who made his first league start this season a fortnight ago against Burnley has just over 18-months left on his current deal with the Blues.
However, Leeds might not be alone for his signature as Newcastle United have also been linked with the player in the past. Financially, Newcastle may not have financial issues in signing the midfielder considering their recent takeover.
With Newcastle themselves fighting a relegation battle – Leeds and Magpies can surely go face-to-face for the signature of Chelsea player.
