John Terry on why Chelsea would win the Premier League over Manchester City and Liverpool
Speaking in an interview with BeIN Sports (h/t Metro), Blues legend John Terry gives his reasons for believing Chelsea will win the Premier League title this season. His former team is currently engaged in a tough battle with Manchester City, and Liverpool whom many believe are genuine threats to the league leaders.
Terry was highly successful at Stamford Bridge and has won the league five times with a Champions League to boot. He also won the FA Cup five times and has three League Cups to his name. With a Europa League and two English Super Cups in his cabinet, he is no stranger to glory.
Thomas Tuchel’s side are the current Premier League table-toppers with 29 points from 12 matches and have the best defence alongside the second-best attack. They have a three-point lead over Man City, whereas the Reds are a point further behind.
The former defender thinks that Tuchel’s side have more depth compared to their competitors, and that would help them in the long run. He used an example of how Romelu Lukaku’s injury has not affected the team upfront, which shows how good the whole squad is.
“I think the strength and depth in their [Chelsea’s] squad looks to me by far the best in the league. They’ve coped really well without him [Lukaku] and they’ve got players who turn up and score goals as well.”
The former skipper also praised the Blues for coping in the absence of stellar summer signing Romelu Lukaku. He believes the Belgian’s return will be a massive boost going into the hectic summer schedule.
“I’ve been really impressed how they’ve dealt with it. Having Lukaku back in the run up to Christmas will be a big boost as well.”

Chelsea have shown an aptitude to getting the right results and it can hold them in good stead when the going gets tough. Tuchel’s side already have experience of winning a major trophy and it could make the difference come the end of the season.
The Liverpool frontline is very thin, and while their defence has more players this season, an injury to Virgil van Dijk could potentially derail their season like the last term. City’s defence is also not blessed with quality backups, which goes with what Terry said.
