John Terry hails Chelsea target Declan Rice as best defensive midfielder
Chelsea legend John Terry was full of praise for English and West Ham United star Declan Rice after his emphatic performance against Liverpool on Sunday.
Taking to Twitter (h/t Express), the former England skipper hailed the youngster as the best defensive midfielder in the world. Wearing the captain’s armband, 22-year-old dominated the likes of Jordan Henderson, Thiago and Fabinho throughout the match that helped his team win 3-2 against the Reds.
An own goal from Alisson, Pablo Fornals and Kurt Zouma secured a 3-2 win, as West Ham continued to upset the party with a view to European qualification.
The Hammers are currently third in the points table and have been in outstanding form this season. Raving about his performance Terry tweeted:
“Declan Rice is the best in his position in world football. What a player.”
The English international has been picked out for special praise by several pundits week after week as his dominating performances game after game has really made him the talking point on match days.
Rice is a well known target of the Blues and was linked with a £100million move in the summer but somehow the move never materialised. Rice has turned down the offer of two new contracts at the London Stadium.
However, Rice is under contract until the summer of 2024 at the London Stadium, so surely West Ham will have an advantage during the negotiations if Chelsea put in a bid in the table.
