Genoa boss Shevchenko planning to raid Chelsea for Christian Pulisic
According to Secolo XIX (h/t The Sun), newly appointed Genoa boss Andriy Shevchenko is all set to raid Chelsea in the upcoming transfer window for Christian Pulisic.
Genoa have appointed the former Ukraine coach as their manager on a deal until 2024 on Sunday. He replaced Davide Ballardini in the Italian side’s dugout, who are currently languishing in 17th in the Serie A table.
The Italian side owners have promised him funds so that he can compete in the Italian league and avoid relegation. He appears to be keen to reinforce the side in January to boost their chances of escaping relegation.
Shevchenko will be hoping that his connections at Chelsea help him sign winger Pulisic. The American has suffered a number of injuries and niggles in recent years, which has hampered his development and impact at Chelsea.
A meeting with AS Roma will be Shevchenko’s first test as Genoa manager on November 14 at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium where he will come face to face with his former manager at Chelsea – Jose Mourinho.
The pair won the 2006/07 League Cup and FA Cup during their time together at Stamford Bridge. Roman Abramovich smashed the British transfer record to sign Shevchenko from AC Milan.
Despite his injuries, Chelsea have struggled to get the best out of Pulisic on a regular basis. However, it is in our best interests to keep him. There is every chance the United States international can turn into a world-class player and hopefully it will happen at Chelsea.
