Chelsea star Edouard Mendy slams media for being mistaken for Benjamin Mendy
According to The Athletic, Chelsea goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy hits out at the media outlets for using his image for identifying Benjamin Mendy, who was arrested after being charged with several rape cases and sexual assault.
The Manchester City left-back was taken into custody after being charged with six rape counts and one sexual assault. Some news outlets used the image of the Blues ace and Ferland Mendy to cover the news regarding the City defender.
The 29-year-old lashed out at the media and accused them of racism due to their actions. The Real Madrid defender also joined in support to speak out against the vile actions. Both of them are cousins and shared their plight on their social media handles.
“Sad to see that in 2021, in France as well as in England, for some, Black people have neither names nor distinct faces. These ‘mistakes’ of photos appear anecdotal, but actually they are quite the opposite, they are highly symbolic. It’s not that complicated to differentiate two faces, especially when the football jersey is of valuable help!”
The Senegal international suggested that there were ulterior motives behind these actions since it is not hard to differentiate between Chelsea and Manchester City. The Los Blancos left-back supported him by stating that racism will eventually be eradicated one day, and the people responsible will treat them with respect.
“Thank you, Edouard Mendy! We’re in 2021. Stop! It will take time but in the end you’ll respect us. Whether you like it or not.”
The Citizens defender was charged with four counts of rape and one of sexual assault back in August. And on Tuesday, two more counts of rape were added to his name, which sparked the hate crime. He has been held in custody since August and has been denied bail on multiple occasions.
