Transfer News: Underused Chelsea defender flies to Italy to seal January loan move

Transfer News: Out of favour Chelsea ace Malang Sarr close to sealing loan move to Inter Milan in January

According to transfer news on Sports Media Set (h/t football.london), Chelsea ace Malang Sarr is thought to be closing in on a loan deal to Inter Milan in January.

The French defender joined the Blues last summer before going on loan to FC Porto. He played quite a bit for the Portuguese club, helping them get to the quarter-final of the Champions League.

Sarr returned to Stamford Bridge in the summer and featured in pre-season. His appearances have mainly been restricted to cup competitions, with his only league appearance coming in the 0-1 win against Brentford in October.

The defender might now be looking to seal a loan move to Inter Milan in January. The 22-year-old has apparently flown to Milan recently to negotiate a deal with the Italian club which could include an option to buy him permanently at the end of his temporary spell.

The right decision?

Sarr is one of our few left-footed centre-back options, making him an orthodox replacement for Antonio Rudiger when the German is benched or is unavailable for selection. He was signed to add to the depth in the ranks, and we might need him in the coming months.

If we continue our run in the EFL Cup, the Blues shall be competing in nearly five competitions, including the FIFA Club World Cup in February. Our squad will be put to the test during this gruelling fixture pile-up, and we will need every player to play a part.

Sarr is certainly one of them and could become a regular in the EFL Cup and the FA Cup. The Frenchman could also feature in the matches against some of the lesser oppositions in the Premier League.

Thus, while the paperwork still needs to be signed, Thomas Tuchel needs to take into account the load of the games in the coming months and then make the most sensible decision regarding the future of the centre-back this season. But if he feels that we have the personnel required for the season ahead, then it’s best to trust what the UEFA Champions League-winning manager decides.
