Transfer News: Chelsea to battle Newcastle United for RB Leipzig player Christopher Nkunku
According to Le Parisien (h/t ESPN), RB Leipzig midfielder Christopher Nkunku is linked with a move to Chelsea amidst interest from Newcastle United. He has recently taken the services of Pini Zahavi, which could mean that he is set for a transfer to the Premier League.
The 23-year-old joined Leipzig from Paris Saint-Germain in 2019 as he struggled to get game time. Following his move, he has been sensational for the Bundesliga side and has risen to the top as one of the most desired players.
The French attacker has scored 22 goals and provided 32 assists in 100 games for his current club. He recently scored in the 2-2 draw with PSG in the Champions League and has also scored a hat-trick against Manchester City this season.
The Frenchman got into his stride this term as he scored ten goals and provided five assists in 16 games. Even though his side has been poor in the Champions League, he has been one of the few positives in the competition.
This Leipzig star is also very dynamic and can play at multiple positions without a drop off in his output. A player like him would be a great asset to any team provided he is given the chance.
The Blues could capitalise on the already confirmed interest should they decide to not keep Saul Niguez. If they do not activate the purchase option in his contract, it could vacate a midfield position in the future.
