Chelsea want FC Barcelona and Spain midfielder Gavi amidst contract negotiations

According to Catalan news outlet El Nacional (h/t The Mirror), Chelsea are keen on getting the highly-rated FC Barcelona and Spain youngster Gavi to Stamford Bridge. He has become a mainstay at his club and the national team in a short period.

The 17-year-old has already left a good impression at Camp Nou after breaking into the senior side. He was also recently involved with his country as he helped them qualify for the 2022 Qatar World Cup. His name was chanted by the fans and was applauded as a result of his excellent display on the field.

The Spaniard is from the famous La Masia academy that had unearthed the likes of Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez. He is tipped to reach those similar heights and, the pressure is c certainly on him to meet expectations.

The Blues are plotting to trigger the release clause in the midfielder’s contract, which amounts to £42million. They can directly address the player in such a case and would not have to deal with Barca. While the amount is no bargain, it could be worth its weight in gold should Gavi meet expectations.

However, Barcelona are engaged in negotiations with the player for contract renewal to ward off interest from other clubs. It is said that they are looking to raise the clause to a massive £840m to eradicate the possibility of a rival club making their move.

Even though he endured some difficult moments recently, it was more due to Ronald Koeman and Sergi Barjuán not utilising him to his strengths. Gavi is happy with his life and, a move away from the Nou Camp is very unlikely to happen.

Following the arrival of Xavi Hernandez, it is expected that the teenager would be given a stage where he can excel. He is also a regular at the club, which would not be the case at the West London club, where there is high competition for sports in midfield.
