According to Calciomercato (h/t The Mirror), Chelsea are preparing an offer to sign Juventus superstar Federico Chiesa after he has impressed for club and country. He was recently involved in his side’s 4-0 drubbing at the hands of the current Champions League winners.
Juve had acquired his services from Fiorentina on a two-year loan basis with an option to buy at the end of the loan period. It would see them pay up to £54million should all the conditions in the contract be met. And from the looks of it, it wouldn’t be audacious to say that he can make a permanent move based on how good he has been for them.
Following his move, Chiesa has scored 17 goals while assisting 13 times from 58 matches across all competitions. He has also made an impression on his national team, playing a role in their 2020 UEFA Euros triumph earlier this year. His work rate, combined with his offensive abilities, caught the eyes of the onlookers during the summer.
Roman Abramovich is ready to make an offer worth £84million to get the services of the 24-year-old forward. He considers the Juve ace as an important investment that will reap benefits through his performances.
He is the face of a Juventus side currently going through an important rebuilding process and only time will tell if Juventus would be willing to entertain any offers for him. After Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure, Chiesa has been the fulcrum of attack for the Old Lady.
Should the English club acquire his services, it would be a signing for the present and the future. Competition in attacking positions are high at Stamford Bridge but his talent would ensure that he is in and around the starting XI on most occasions. Moreover, the forward line could be freed even further should the club deem anyone dispensable.
Hakim Ziyech is yet to justify the hype that followed him from Ajax to London and Christian Pulisic has been in and out of the squad due to various reasons. Following the arrival of Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner has been linked with a move away from Bridge (h/t ESPN) and if the German does leave Chelsea, the club could use someone like Chiesa even more.
Chiesa has shown his pedigree in Serie A as well as the international stage. He has what it takes to play at a big club like Chelsea considering his exploits at Italy and Juventus. Whether we actually do end up signing him remains to be seen, but it is one potential transfer deal that not many Blues fans would be opposed to.
