According to journalist Ekrem Konur (h/t ESPN), Chelsea have put a £14m price tag on Ross Barkley ahead of the January transfer window.
The Englishman has failed to make a mark at Chelsea since moving to the club from Everton in 2018. He spent last season on loan at Aston Villa. Despite enjoying a good start to life at Cilla Park, his tint was in the end a disappointing venture.
This season he has only started one game and the English player’s lack of game time has sparked several speculations on his future at the club.
Some Premier League clubs have taken a great interest in the situation regarding the 27-year-old player. It is believed that Newcastle United, Leeds United, and Burnley are all keen on signing the midfielder. Furthermore, the concerned teams would be happy to know that the Blues board have given the green light to Barkley moving elsewhere.
It is believed that the West Londoners has valued the player at £14m. It represents a fair value for a player who still has age on his side and is not to mention, homegrown.
It would appear that Barkley has missed the bus at Chelsea. In the past few seasons, his appearances have been continuously declining. He went through failed loan moves at Everton and Aston Villa, but his influence has been limited for quite some time. Furthermore, his lack of creativity in the midfield hasn’t helped him make the situation any better.
Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech’s inclusion in the team has made the opportunities even slender for the English international. Havertz has been putting a consistent row of incredible performances, and he was the hero of West Londoner’s Champions League triumph last season.
On the other hand, the German boss has put his faith in academy graduate Mason Mount, who has recently been in red hot form. Another academy graduate, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, has capitalised on any slipped opportunity and impressed against Juventus last night.
The Chelsea team is performing great currently, and Thomas Tuchel wouldn’t want to change his winning formula. But it seems there is little to no place for 27-year-old Ross Barkley.
