Transfer News: Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek now on the radar of Jose Mourinho
According to Corriere Dello Sport (h/t Daily Mail), Jose Mourinho is looking to strengthen his midfield by adding Premier League midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek who he coached during his Chelsea days.
Jose Mourinho is looking to sharpen his midfield at Roma. He has been ‘less-than-impressed’ with some current players. So he is looking to raid Premier League players in the winter transfer window. Among them, Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s name is high on the list.
After a mediocre loan spell at Fulham FC, the English player landed back at Stamford Bridge this summer. But he is yet to convince Thomas Tuchel of his abilities.
This season he has only featured in 3 complete 90 min actions for the Blues. In those matches, he wasn’t able to attract the German manager’s eyes. Furthermore, Chelsea’s midfield is stacked up by some of the elite names in Europe. Thus every passing day, it has been more difficult for him to obtain any minutes.
The 25-year-old player’s England career also is at risk due to the lack of playing time at Chelsea. He didn’t get a spot at Gareth Southgate’s England squad.
He has a great connection with the special one who handed him his Champions League debut in 2014.
The Portuguese manager is yet to establish his faith in some of the current players. In such a case, he has a problem around the depth of his midfield.
On the other hand, he spent more than eight years in England, where he established himself as a world-class manager. He has a vast knowledge about many players and a detailed understanding of the players he coached. He already lured Tammy Abraham from the Blues this summer.
A talented player like Loftus-Cheek would look to rejuvenate his career. But to do so, he needs playing time which the Champions League winning manager could offer him at La Lupa.
