Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel backs Nuno Espirito Santo to bounce back after Spurs sacking
Talking to media (h/t Daily Mail) ahead of Chelsea’s Champions League tie against Malmo, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel said it is ‘never nice to hear’ someone gets sacked from the job after Nuno Espirito Santo was the latest manager to bite the dust at Tottenham Hotspur.
Tuchel himself was sacked during Christmas Eve last winter by Paris Saint-Germain but was soon hired by the Blues and straight away won the Champions League with them. On top of that, the German boss has taken them to the top of the Premier League table in the ongoing season.
Tuchel can be surely an example for any manager who proves that you can come back even stronger after the sack. After describing how Nuno’s sacking was ‘not good news and never nice to hear’, the former Borussia Dortmund boss explained how being shown the door at PSG turned out to be a blessing in disguise for him.
“Now Chelsea seems to be the perfect fit for me from day one.” I don’t know if I needed extra motivation but I wasn’t happy to be sacked at Christmas because my mission was not fulfilled. I had big plans for the Champions League campaign and to win the league again at PSG. I was hungry and on the way. It was a huge interruption.”
Nuno was sacked by Tottenham after only four months in charge after their latest 3-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester United on Sunday. The Portuguese coach was appointed as permanent successor to Jose Mourinho in June but things didn’t work out for him at the north London club.
Tuchel on the other hand has been an inspiration at Stamford Bridge. Since his appointment, Chelsea have just gone better and better in every department.
On Tuesday night, the Blues Malmo in the Champions League and Tuchel and Co. will be hoping for an easy win against the Swedish minnows. Chelsea are currently second in the points table behind Juventus but are favourites to progress to the next round.
