According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel has warned his side not to take Burnley’s aerial prowess for granted ahead of their Premier League tie this weekend.
The Blues go into the match with a three-point lead at the top of the table over arch-rivals Liverpool. The Clarets meanwhile are enduring a difficult season and are languishing in the 18th spot.
Despite the differing form and fortunes this season, Burnley on their day are a formidable outfit. While their football may not be too pleasing to the eye, it has proven effective when used right.
Tuchel is aware of Sean Dyche’s long ball tactics and has focussed preparation on dealing with the approach. A special impetus appears to be placed on winning the second ball and standing up to any aerial duels that may arise.
The Bleus boss defeated Burnley 2-0 last season for his first win since taking over at Stamford Bridge. Dyche’s side gave the German a testing introduction to English football that night, a test he eventually passed.
With the international weekend coming up next weekend, Chelsea will be keen to go into the break still in possession of the top spot in the Premier League.
Tuchel must be lauded for treating the game against Burnley as any other and enduring his side are prepared to deal with what is to be thrown at them.
Chelsea look set to welcome back Mason Mount who missed the games against Newcastle United and Malmo with an illness. N’Golo Kante could also return to play a major role on the night a Chelsea look to win more second balls.
Competing against Burnley at their own game, one that they have perfected is not easy. By focussing on winning the second ball, Tuchel could very well have discovered his winning formula.
