Chelsea make £50.4m bid for Nations League winning Ligue 1 midfielder

Transfer News: Chelsea make £50.4m bid for Aurelien Tchouameni

According to Tuttosport (h/t Football.London), Chelsea have made an official bid of £50.4m to sign French starlet Aurelien Tchouameni

The Frenchman has made some headlines recently due to him being linked with some of the biggest clubs in the world. It’s fair to say; he has earned every bit of that interest through his on-field performance. The 21-year-old player remains a budding midfielder who knows his way around the midfield area.

Chelsea have been targeting the midfielder for a long time. However, the Blues faced massive competition from Juventus, Tottenham and Liverpool. Now, it seems the Thomas Tuchel’s team has made the first step in the pursuit.

It is believed that the Blues have made an offer worth €60 (£50.4m) to Monaco for the defensive midfielder. It represents a fair value for a player who could be the future of the Chelsea midfield for years to come.

Chelsea’s current form sees them remain top of the Premier League table. They have been holding the top spot for quite some time now and has been putting some threatening performances in the Premier League. But the English top-flight is a battle of 38 games spreading over ten months. In order to keep the consistency intact, many factors come into play in that period, including squad depth.

Not every player can play all 38 matches. Recently, Chelsea star midfielder N’Golo Kanté suffered a knee injury. The injury’s severity and length are unknown, but it could be damaging for the whole squad to lose a crucial part of the team ahead of the busy December schedule.

Injuries can hit at any point of time and derail the team’s season. Liverpool were top last December but saw their title defence collapse when the injuries in defence caught up with them. Chelsea should ensure it does not happen to them.

Tchouameni’s current quality suggests that he could perform in bigger stages. He has proved his consistency and reliability. This can be an excellent opportunity for the German manager to start investing in the future while improving the present performance.
