“Best bet”- Loaned Chelsea duo urged to stay at current clubs instead of Stamford Bridge return

Shaun Wright-Phillips advises Chelsea loanees Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour to stay put

Speaking in an interview with Metro, former Chelsea player Shaun Wright-Phillips has advised loanees Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour on the future at their loan clubs. Gallagher is currently on loan at Crystal Palace, whereas Gilmour is plying his trade at Norwich City.

The former has had a great start to his campaign under the tenure of Patrick Vieira. With four goals and two assists to his name from 12 matches across all competitions, his loan move has been a success so far. He also earned his national team debut recently after Gareth Southgate brought him on against San Marino.

The latter has struggled to get minutes at his loan club after falling out with former boss Daniel Farke. He has been sensational for Scotland during international duty and was also recently involved under Dean Smith. He was influential as Norwich beat Southampton by 2-1, where he set up the winner.

“If I was either of those two players, especially playing the way that they are both playing. I think the best bet for them personally is to stay where they are.”

Wright-Phillips suggested the duo stay at their current clubs and complete the season to gain valuable Premier League experience. He added how well they are playing and should not entertain the idea of a return to Stamford Bridge during a season.

“For me, while they’re playing so well and gaining all this Premier League experience and learning I think they should just stay there and get on with it.”

The ex-Blues winger gave his insight amidst calls for an early recall for the midfield duo. The 21-year-old is having a sensational time at Palace, and it would be a piece of ill advice to bring him back when he is improving with valuable minutes.

The Scottish international is also likely to turn things around following the arrival of Smith and the recent admission for the new man in charge. So it would be best for them to not be recalled and lose the opportunity to gain more exposure in the top-flight.
