23-year-old loanee reveals he would open to leaving Chelsea for Championship club

Transfer News: Chelsea loanee Nathan Baxter opens up on joining Hull City permanently

Speaking to BBC Radio Humberside (h/t football.london), Nathan Baxter has revealed that he would open to leaving Chelsea and joining Hull City permanently.

A product of the Cobham academy, Baxter has moved around quite a bit. Before joining Hull City this summer, the shot-stopper had six other loan moves across the UK. However, the move to the Championship club is a step up for him when it comes to his loan spells.

He has been in and out of the side this season, making only 4 league appearances. The goalkeeper has now revealed that he would be open to joining the Yorkshire club permanently.

He told BBC Radio Humberside (h/t football.london):

“If and when that decision is made, obviously it’s something that I’m open to, but with football, it’s just a case of taking it game by game.”

Perhaps the right decision

It is going to be very hard for the 23-year-old to make it into the senior set-up at Stamford Bridge. The Blues have promoted several youngsters and given chances to players of their ‘loan army’ as well. However, the goalkeeping department seems to be sorted for now.

Edouard Mendy is in the form of his life and could continue for quite a while, given the professional life of a shot-stopper. Kepa Arrizabalaga would also be hoping to rekindle his Chelsea career at some point. Thus, the chances for Baxter are bleak.

But it cannot be ruled out completely. If the Englishman does shine for Hull this season and impresses in training at Stamford Bride, were he to ever return to Chelsea, then there could be an outside shout for him to cut it under Thomas Tuchel.

That, however, seems like a long shot, and if the London club can churn out a reasonable transfer fee for him, it could be the most sensible decision right now. But there is nothing to suggest right now that any team is interested in signing him permanently. That is something only time will tell.
