Transfer News: Chelsea leading the race to sign AS Monaco midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni
According to Marca via Sport Witness (h/t Mirror), Chelsea are in pole position to sign 21-year-old French midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni
The French international has been grabbing interest from giants across Europe recently. The youngster is being linked to teams like Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Chelsea. However, it is believed that the Blues are frontrunners n pursuit of the 21-year-old.
The young midfielder has already played 65 matches across all competitions for AS Monaco. During that period he has scored 5 goals and provided 4 assists for the French club. The West London club is enjoying the season whilst currently sitting on the top of the Premier League table with 26 points after 11 matches.
They went on to splurge £97.5 million for Romelu Lukaku in the last transfer window and could be looking to add some reinforcement in the middle of the pitch this time around. Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante, and Jorginho are the midfield trio that is usually preferred by Thomas Tuchel. They also managed to get Saul Niguez on loan from Atletico Madrid for the season.
Kante isn’t getting younger by the day and Chelsea should look to future-proof their midfield sooner rather than later. Tchouaméni perfectly fits the bill and could become a great long-term asset for the club, if developed and nurtured properly.
Chelsea play across several competitions during the campaign and his acquisition could help the Blues compete at a higher level. The 21-year-old could take some time to get used to the intensity and physicality of the PL but could go on to develop further under a world-renowned coach like Tuchel.
According to a recent report by Football.London via Sport Witness on 10th November, The French club has evaluated him at €50m (£42m). A previous piece by Daily Mail at the start of October suggested that Monaco had slapped a £34m price stage on the 21-year-old.
With increasing competition, the Ligue 1 club could be tempted to increase their selling price till January. This could make his purchase an expensive affair but Chelsea haven’t shied away from spending the big bucks when it comes to bringing in supremely talented players to the club.
