Transfer News: Chelsea keen on signing Napoli striker Victor Osimhen
According to El Nacional (h/t The Hard Tackle), Premier League side Chelsea are keen on bolstering their attack as they are looking to swoop for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.
The report adds that The Blues might have to pay a staggering €90 million to the Serie A side if they want to seal the deal for the Nigerian. This comes a year after Napoli signed him from Ligue 1 side Lille OSC for €70 million.
After a shaky debut season at Naples due to Covid and injury issues, the Nigeria international has been progressing in the 2021-22 campaign. He was voted Serie A’s player of the month in September as well.
Chelsea are in the market as Thomas Tuchel intends to bolster Chelsea’s attack despite signing Romelu Lukaku in the summer for a club-record deal. Lukaku’s fellow striker Timo Werner has failed to impress at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea might be looking to cash in on the German frontman.
Osimhen is in superb form this season as he has already scored nine goals and has also given two assists in just 12 appearances across all competitions. Napoli currently sits at the top of the league table with 31 points after 11 games.
The 6-foot-3 striker started at the Ultimate Strikers Academy back in his hometown Nigeria, before moving to German side VfL Wolfsburg in 2017. The striker then moved to Belgian outfit RSC Charleroi in 2018, where he made a good impression, which prompted LOSC Lille to get his services in 2019.
Chelsea’s move to Osimhen might be a cunning move keeping his physique and pace in mind. His pace is such that it might suit the Premier League and Chelsea as well. The young striker is devastating when given there is even an inch of space behind the defence.
