According to Eurosport (h/t Metro), Chelsea have joined fellow Premier League club Liverpool and Spanish giants Real Madrid in the race to sign Fulham’s young attacker, Fabio Carvalho.
The 19-year-old midfielder had a lightning start in the Championship this season for the Cottagers, scoring three goals in seven matches and in process, helping Marco Silva’s side move to second in the Championship as they aim to make their way back to the Premier League after getting relegated last season.
The youngster is a highly-rated prospect, having already made six appearances for England Under-23s and has already received the EFL Young Player of the Month award for August.
Carvalho was born in Lisbon but represents England at the youth level as he is now eligible after living in the United Kingdom for an extended period. The youngster primarily plays a central attacking midfield role, but can also play on either side of the wings when required.
The attacker is out of contract next summer and can talk to clubs as soon as the January transfer window opens. Now, it is claimed Fulham fear Carvalho’s head has been turned offers from abroad and English clubs and he might want to make a move for his growth as a professional footballer.
Carvalho came on as a substitute in Londoner’s eye-catching 7-0 thrashing over Blackburn Rovers on Thursday night. Following the win, Fulham boss Silva said:
“It was a fantastic win for us, but we know it’s just three points.”
“We have to be humble enough to know that we did fantastic in scoring seven goals in this competition away from home and keeping a clean sheet, but it is just three points.”
Chelsea have always been a club that’s on the hunt for signing young players and help them develop in their academy or send them out on loan at the correct club. The Blues are currently on top of the Premier League table and look in impressive form this season.
