Chelsea fear Ben Chilwell may be out for the season following potential ACL injury
According to The Sun (h/t Daily Mail Online), Chelsea could be dealt a blow in the form of Ben Chilwell, who may have suffered an ACL injury during the game against Juventus. The Blues thrashed Juve by a 4-0 scoreline, but their happiness would be diminished by this situation.
Thomas Tuchel’s side leapfrogged the Italian side in the group because of their goal difference as both sides are equal on points after five matches have been played. N’Golo Kante also suffered an injury dealing further concerns to Tuchel.
Chilwell went down in pain during the second half, and he had to be substituted and was carried off the pitch. He will undergo a scan on his knee where he suffered the pain, and a clearer picture will be available in the coming days.
The West London club are concerned that the defender might have endured anterior cruciate ligament damage. Should that be true, he could miss out on the rest of the season, which would be the worst-case scenario.
Following the game, the German coach had mentioned his concern about the injury. He said that the left-back was in his best possible condition, and for him to go down could be a sign that the issue is serious.
Things could not get worse for the England international as he had missed the early stages due to testing positive for Covid-19. He had to sit out the national team squad during their Euro 2020 campaign, and this could affect him mentally.
With the World Cup also set to take place next summer, Chilwell would loathe to spend time on the sidelines and potentially miss out on Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

Having missed the earlier games, the Englishman was behind Marcos Alonso in the pecking order but fought his way back into the starting lineup. In the six Premier League matches he has played this season, he scored three goals and assisted once.
Should the fears come true, he would need the support of his teammates, the coach, and the people around him to help him through the tough moment.
