According to Fotomac (h/t Football.London), Chelsea are targeting Besiktas goalkeeper Ersin Destanoglu as a backup for Edouard Mendy.
The 20-years old has become the no. one keeper at Beşiktaş. In the nine Super Lig games, he kept four clean sheets this season for the Turkish side. It is a promising start for the youngster at the top level.
Claude Makélélé, who has taken over the role of the technical mentor for young players at Chelsea, tracked down the goalkeeper. He also sensed that the Blues could use his qualities in the net.
It is believed that the former Chelsea player travelled all the way to Istanbul to have a chat with Besiktas coach Sergen Yalçın about the Turkish player.
Chelsea currently have one of the best showstoppers at their disposal in Mendy. This season he has nine clean sheets in 15 games across all competition for the London team. Tiem and again, he saved many poised shots from lethal Premier League strikers and kept Chelsea’s title hopes alive.
But it is believed that the Chelsea contingent doesn’t have much faith in Kepa Arrizabalaga and Marcus Bettinelli, who are serving backup options for the Senegal international. This season Kepa featured in only one Premier League game due to the unavailability of Mendy.
Nobody knows when an injury can hit and is a common occurrence in Premier League. Chelsea would want to have a strong backup option in case Mendy couldn’t feature in some games.
Ersin can provide depth and strength to the Blues’ squad. The Chelsea manager could have a flexible option going forward if they complete the Turkish player’s purchase.
